Dub Pop Soul Mates
Dub Pop collective Heavensbee formed in New York City in 2015 around the talents of Roger Apollon Jr. and Marc Wasserman who have all played in a variety of ska and reggae groups together and separately including Bigger Thomas and Rude Boy George.
The group cites influences that run the gamut from Lover’s Rock, dub reggae and ska (The Specials, No Doubt) to 80’s new wave (Depeche Mode, Fun Boy Three) to trip hop (Massive Attack) and indie rock (the xx).
At the beginning of 2018, the duo have taken on a more collaborative vision for their second release by working with some of the top ska and reggae musicians around the world. With the addition of vocalist and saxophonist Jenny Whiskey of Hub City Stompers, they produced the single “dEvalUeD” featuring Matt Wixson (Matt Wixson’s Flying Circus). They have also expanded their repertoire and have done their first remix project: “Gonna Fly Now (The Theme from Rocky)” by Hong Kong’s The Red Stripes on their new album “In The Ska East”! More collaborations are due out later this year.
