The Funaddicts

Early third wave, late second wave.... whatever you want to call The Funaddicts, they deliver a unique take on the skankin' sounds

The Funaddicts is a 2nd wave Ska band from Brisbane, Australia who emerged in the mid-80’s and quickly gained a solid reputation for high energy ska gigs around the East coast of Australia. Taking inspiration from the British and Australian bands of the time like The Specials, Madness, The Beat, Bad Manners, Allniters and Strange Tenants, the Funaddicts attempted to combine the fun and frivolity of Ska/Reggae with politically based lyrics, best exemplified in songs like Mandela, Greed & Power and Queensland, while toons like What’s Going On and All Day Till Midnight showcased their nuttier good-time side. In 1987, the band scored a #1 position on the 4zzz charts for their independently released single “Mandela/What’s Going On?, the latter winning a Qld Sunnie Award for best original song. After disbanding in the early 90’s, in 2011, members of the group decided to dust off their boots, uncover some old recordings and most importantly reform and start playing gigs around Australia. The track “All Day Till Midnight” recorded in the late ‘80’s has also been re-released on the digital download album – Ska Lives 3. An 8 track EP of their earlier material has been released through bandcamp and will be in hard copy form early 2014. The Funaddicts are now preparing a new album for release during 2014 which will contain old and new favourites recorded by the current line up!

The Funaddicts have become stalwarts of Specialized tribute series having recorded versions of The Beats Jeanette, Madness’s Tomorrow’s Just Another Day. Somebody Got Murdered by The Clash and Lively Up Yourself orginally by Bob Marley & the Wailers.
