We are delighted to announce that German ska legends BLUEKILLA will be appearing at The Big One 9
Bluekilla were founded in München in 1985 by Guido Sauerbier, Christian Fiebig, Christoph Schmidt, Olle Ross and Wolfgang Stehle. Bluekilla recorded the first EP Bluekilla in 1990 and released the blue vinyl 45 on his own Rough & Tough label. The band continued playing shows and was invited to play bigger Ska-festivals in Stuttgart and München. Following the success of Third Wave Ska and the band’s growing popularity in their hometown, Bluekilla decided to produce a long player and make a CD of it. For that purpose, they recruited Tschinge Krenn(No Goods, Condom) on organ and Werner Aldinger (owner of Enja Records HW) on trombone, to gain a more 2 Tone like sound.
Festival appearances and smaller tours led the group through Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and Italy, and they shared stages with Judge Dread, The Selecter, Laurel Aitken, Bad Manners, The Toasters, The Busters, Dr. Ring Ding, Mr. Symarip and everyone else who has a name in Ska. In 1997 Bluekilla achieved special fame and legend status through a Harakiri tour to war-torn former Yugoslavia.
When back in Germany, they started working on Ska Is Our Business(1999), the biggest success the band had so far. After the separation from Artysan Records they joined Pork Pie, the oldest and renowned Ska label in Germany. Live performances reached a peak at this time and Bluekilla shared stages with Burning Spear, Leningrad Cowboys, Fettes Brot, Killerpilze and Gentleman, to name a few. In 2001 the band took the long road and started a 18 days tour in Australia, playing 11 shows in Victoria and New South Wales, accompanied by The Porkers, Backy Skank, OiSka, Commissioner Gordon.
In 2012 time has come to drop the so called The Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 – The Early Years (1989-1996), a compilation of the works before and during the Artysan Records era. The compilation contain the songs that had become anthems in the world wide Ska scene.
